Health care developments are integral to the economic context of the countries and public health experts need to have knowledge of how the economic systems work to be effective in designing and implement programs that will meet the needs of the population. Therefore this course will introduce participants to a wide range of issues in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and health financing; and health sector reforms and their application in developing country contexts.
At the end of the course the students will be able to:
- Describe concepts of economics in the context of health care its financing
- Discuss the links between economics and health
- Apply the concepts of economics to health systems development, financing, management and reforms
