The rational for evidence informed decision making will be presented. Types of evidence and process of generating research evidence will be covered. Processes of establishing, promoting and maintaining researcher/policy maker linkages will be explored. The policy process, research communication models, agenda setting and advocacy and tools for promoting research to policy will be covered.
By the end of the course the student must be able to:
- Distinguish between different types of research evidence.
- Discuss merits and demerits of different models of research influence on health policy development.
- Discuss the barriers and facilitators of evidence-informed health policy
- Apply strategic planning and communication skills that will enable participants to increase the use of research results for the improvement of policies and programs.
