The course will give an overview of health care delivery systems in developed and developing countries. The course will provide participants with an understanding of the historical background, evolution, current debates, concepts, components and models of primary health care. Ugandan and international comparisons will be used to develop and illustrate themes of primary health care. The policy process, policy risk analysis and political mapping and the National Health Policy and strategic planning process will be discussed. Global Health Initiatives (GHI), globalisation and their implications for health policy will be covered.
The course will be structured to allow participants to take the viewpoint of various levels and players in the Ugandan health care system – as planners, managers, policy makers and evaluators.
