SPH8108 Economic Evaluation and Decision Making in Health

Course Description

The health care service delivery system operates under resource constrained environments. Economic evaluations generate evidence on resource use and guide the allocation of resources. It is necessary that public health experts have the knowledge on how make prudent resource allocation decisions with a view of effectively designing and implementing programs that are not only address issues of cost containment, but also meet the needs of the population.

Therefore this course will introduce participants to a wide range of issues in economic evaluation and decision making and how these apply in developing country contexts.

Course Objectives:

The primary objective of this course is to prepare students to conduct health services research using the unique economic evaluation and decision analysis methodology. The student will be equipped to comprehend, critique economic evaluation studies as well as participate in planning, designing and evaluation of interventions in varying health care settings.
